Eddy Alexandre founded and led EminiFX, which he marketed from September 2021 as an automated crypto and forex investment platform promising at least 5% guaranteed weekly returns via a secret "Robo-Advisor" technology. According to the SDNY, he solicited more than $248 million from over 25,000 investors while the weekly "returns" shown on the site were fabricated. [1][2]
Legal outcome
Alexandre pleaded guilty to commodities fraud in February 2023 and, in July 2023, was sentenced to nine years in prison plus three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay roughly $249 million in forfeiture and $214 million in restitution. [1][2]
